TASKENT
Taşkent is a town established on the Taşeli Plateau in the Central Taurus Mountains, on the Göksu Valley Canyons. In the historical records, the Turkmen, who lived in a scattered state after the Turks migrated from Central Asia, settled in various steep places in Anatolia during the Cagri Bey's Anatolian Expedition between 916 and 966. The Turkmens who came to the Cilicia region are from the Avşar tribe. The head of this tribe is Piri Mehmet. Karaman Bey, one of the sons of Piri Mehmet, came to Karaman and Oğuz Bey came to the Taşkent region and settled. Oğuz Bey left his brother Karaman Han and settled in the Oğuzeli district, which is still known by the same name, in Taşkent. Turkmens, who lived as nomads and scattered, lived in this way until the Battle of Manzikert in 1071. After this date, they continued their lives without fear in their homeland.

Some Turkmen tribes, who escaped from the Mongols 50 years after the first arrivals, started to live in the same regions as they were from the same ancestry as the Mongols. These tribes, who came at the same time, lived like this until 1,150. In 1.150, they got tired of nomadism and decided to build houses and protect the settlement. At this time, they became a village.

They say to ask the name of the village to the oldest person of the time. The old person also proposes the name of the industrious Pir, and the name of the village is considered Pirikondu. Later, this name was changed to Pirlerkondu. Time passes, the Anatolian Seljuk State collapses and many principalities are established in Anatolia. Pirlerkondu was attached to the Karaman sons during the principalities. When Fatih Sultan Mehmet defeated the Karaman sons, Pirlerkondu also joined the Ottomans and became a municipality in 1912. It is available in the official records of the Municipality, where it rose to the district status during the Ottoman period. Later, it was taken from the District Pirlerkondu. Pirlerkondu remains as Nahiye.

While the innovations made after the proclamation of the Republic continued throughout the country, during the construction of the highway connecting Pirlerkondu to Konya, the Governor of Konya, İsmail İzzet Bey, changed the name of Pirlerkondu in 1934 and gave it the name TAŞKENT. Known as Tashkent since then, it was decided to become a district after 1960, but this initiative was abandoned by saying that it should be a big town instead of a small town in those days. The township, which is known as Taşkent, became a district in accordance with the Law No. 3392, which was published in the Official Gazette dated 04 July 1987 and numbered 19507, and became operational on 11 August 1988.

Knife making is a business with a history in Tashkent and Tashkent Knives are very famous. As they are sold in Turkey, these knives are exported to many countries such as Austria, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. Ten thousand knives are produced annually in Tashkent. Because the steel of the blade is hand forged, the air inside the blade escapes and the steel becomes much more durable and the blade sharper. In addition, by quenching the steel, its strength is further increased. Therefore, knives are in great demand both at home and abroad.
